RankCause

One test per keyword, per change

Know which change
moved your rankings.

Most SEO tools show you that your rankings moved. RankCause tests whether the change you made actually caused it — per keyword, with the statistics shown — and tells you plainly when the data can't say yet.

The shift

Stop explaining ranking drops weeks after they happen.

Most SEO teams find out about a page change by watching the rankings fall. There is a faster way.

Your Monday right now

Ranking drop. No obvious cause. Traffic is already bleeding.

  • You open Ahrefs. Positions dropped. Nothing in the backlink log. Helpful.
  • You re-crawl in Screaming Frog. 12,000 URLs. 47 minutes.
  • You diff against last month's export. Find something — maybe a title, maybe a canonical.
  • You ask the dev team. They check Slack history. “Oh yeah, we redeployed last Tuesday.”
  • You write a post-mortem nobody wants to read. Best guess. No timeline. No proof.

The problem

Three silent killers of organic traffic — and why you always notice them last.

Invisible page changes

Developers ship. Content editors tweak. Someone removes a paragraph “for readability” and your top-10 page starts leaking impressions. Nobody tells SEO.

The 3–6 week detection lag

By the time a ranking dip shows up on your GSC chart, the change that caused it is buried under two sprints of commits. Root-cause archaeology burns a full afternoon.

“What changed?” has no answer

Your stakeholders ask the question every Monday. Your rank tracker shows that it moved. Nothing you own shows why. So you guess. And guessing doesn't scale.

How it works

In plain English: you publish a change, and this tells you if it worked.

No SEO score, no black box. Four steps.

  1. Connect

Authorise Google Search Console (your CMS is optional). Three clicks, no credit card. This is the one requirement — without GSC there's no ranking data to test against.

  2. Track

We crawl your pages and log every change — titles, headings, content, links, schema — timestamped, automatically.

  3. Test

When a page changes, we compare that keyword's rankings before and after using a real statistical test — the same kind of check a scientific study uses to rule out coincidence.

  4. Verdict

You get a plain answer: the change likely helped, likely hurt, or there isn't enough data yet — with the confidence attached, never a guess dressed up as a fact.

Core feature

Ties page changes to ranking movements — automatically.

Most rank trackers show you that your position went from #8 to #14. RankCause shows you why — because someone changed your H1, removed a paragraph, or added a noindex tag two days before the drop. We pull your real ranking positions from Google Search Console and GA4 traffic alongside them, so you can see whether a position gain actually drove sessions.

  • Full change history — every edit to every page, timestamped. Title tags, meta descriptions, H1–H6 headings, body word count, internal links, canonical tags, schema markup, robots meta.
  • Side-by-side diffs — see exactly what was added, removed, or modified in any snapshot comparison.
  • Change → ranking overlay — every change event is plotted directly on your ranking chart, alongside GSC clicks/impressions/CTR and GA4 sessions.
  • Instant alerts for critical changes — be notified the moment a title, canonical, or robots meta changes on a high-priority page.
  • Competitor page monitoring — watch what competitors change on their ranking pages, alongside your own.

Everything built around your pages.

Page monitoring is the core. These features extend it to give you the full picture of your site's SEO health.

Instant change alerts

Get notified the moment a high-priority page changes — before a ranking drop gives you away. Configurable by page, severity, and element type. Email + webhook delivery.

GSC + GA4 integration

Pull real ranking and traffic data from Google Search Console and Analytics 4. Clicks, impressions, CTR, positions, sessions and conversions — all linked back to change events.

Competitor page monitoring

Watch what your competitors change on their ranking pages. When they update their top content, you'll know before their positions move.

AI citation tracking

See whether your pages are being cited across AI answer engines — a supporting signal alongside your core rankings, not a replacement for them.

Multi-site dashboard

Manage all your sites in one place. See which domains have recent changes, ranking movements, or pending alerts at a glance.

Ranking impact reports

One-click reports that tie page changes directly to ranking outcomes. Export to PDF or share a link — skip the Slack archaeology.

Connects what changed on your pages to what happened to your rankings, without stitching four dashboards together.

Change impact analysis

See exactly how each page change affected your rankings — a title update, a removed meta description, tested against your ranking history.

Page volatility scores

Know which pages are stable and which are constantly fluctuating, so attention goes where it's actually needed.

New tool

Internal linking that understands your site.

The engine maps your site architecture, tracks how link equity flows between pages, finds orphan content, and suggests exactly where to place every link — on your own data, nothing sent to a third party.

Link equity mapping

See how authority flows through your site — which pages are hubs, which are starving for links.

Content relevance analysis

Every page's titles, headings and body content are analysed so suggestions are based on true relevance, not surface word-matching.

Topical cluster detection

Find isolated content silos and cross-linking opportunities automatically.

Orphan page rescue

Pages with zero inbound links are invisible to search engines. We find every one and suggest which pages should link to them, with anchor text.

One-click link suggestions

Every suggestion names the source page, target page, anchor text, and the exact sentence to link from. Approve, reject, or bulk-apply.

Runs on your data only

The engine runs entirely on your own crawled content. Nothing is sent to a third-party AI provider.

  • Or hand the keys to our team and skip it entirely

“I stopped finding out about on-page changes from ranking reports. Now I know the same hour the deploy lands.”

  • Catch rogue dev pushes before GSC does
  • End “who changed this H1?” post-mortems
  • Bring a full changelog to every stakeholder review

Agencies & freelancers

Your retainer lives and dies in the monthly report.

“Every client call now opens with a timeline of exactly what we shipped and what it did to their rankings.”

  • One-click white-label PDFs tying edits to outcomes
  • Monitor client sites from one dashboard
  • Defend every billable hour with timestamped proof

How we handle not knowing

We won't show you a number we don't have.

Corrected, not cherry-picked
testing several changes at once inflates false positives, so every verdict is corrected for that across the whole batch

FAQ

Common questions

Do I need Google Search Console?

Yes, and it's worth knowing that up front. Every ranking position we test against comes from your real Google Search Console data — there's no causal test without it. If you don't have GSC access for the domain you want to monitor, this isn't the right tool for you yet. Connecting it takes about three minutes once you do.

What does “statistically significant” actually mean here?

It means the ranking move after your change is bigger than what normal day-to-day noise would explain on its own — the same kind of check a scientific study runs before saying a result is real or just noise. When you change several things at once, we also correct across the whole batch, because testing enough changes at p<0.05 will eventually produce false positives by chance. And when there isn't enough ranking history yet to say either way, we tell you that instead of forcing a verdict.

Exactly what on-page elements do you track?

We track title tags, meta descriptions, H1–H6 headings, canonical URLs, robots meta tags, word count, internal link count and targets, image alt attributes, structured data (schema markup), og:title and og:description, and more. Any change to any of these triggers a log entry and optional alert.

How quickly do you detect page changes?

Pages are crawled daily. High-priority pages can be set to check more frequently. When a change is detected, you receive an alert immediately — typically within minutes of our next scheduled crawl cycle completing.

How is the ranking data connected to page changes?

We pull position data daily from Google Search Console via the API. Every change event we log is timestamped and plotted against your ranking timeline for that URL — what changed, when it changed, and what happened to your position in the days and weeks following.

Can I track pages on sites I don't own (competitors)?

Yes. Competitor page monitoring is available on every paid plan (3 competitors on Starter, 5 per project on Growth, 15 per project on Pro, unlimited on Enterprise). You won't have their GSC data, but you'll know the moment they update their content, headings, or structure.

Does this replace tools like Ahrefs or Screaming Frog?

Not entirely — those are excellent tools for backlink analysis and one-off technical audits. RankCause specialises in continuous monitoring: tracking changes over time, correlating them to ranking data, and alerting you in real time. Think of us as the always-on layer on top of your existing toolkit.

What happens after the 3-day free trial?

You choose a plan and your monitoring continues uninterrupted. If you don't subscribe, your account moves to a read-only state — your data is preserved for 30 days so you can export it. No credit card is required to start the trial, and you can cancel before it ends with no charge. AI features are switched off for the whole trial (and on the free Community plan) — they come with a paid plan.

I don't know anything about SEO. Can someone on your team run this for me?

Yes — that's exactly what our done-for-you service is for. From $799/mo, we set up RankCause on your site, monitor it, fix anything SEO-critical that breaks, and email you a plain-English weekly report plus a monthly strategy deep-dive. You get a named human SEO analyst, reachable by email, and you never have to log into a dashboard unless you want to.

Do you accept cryptocurrency payments?

Yes. We accept Bitcoin (BTC), Ethereum (ETH), USD Coin (USDC), DAI and other major cryptocurrencies via Coinbase Commerce, on all plans. Choose “Pay with Crypto” at checkout — transactions are verified on-chain and your plan activates automatically once the payment is confirmed.

Stop finding out from a traffic drop. Find out first.

Every page change on your site is a ranking opportunity or a ranking risk. RankCause makes sure you never miss either — whether you run it yourself or let our team run it for you.
